Dobrogea is the region located between the Danube
and the Black Sea and is also known as Dacia Pontica
or Scitia Mior.
It has been inhabited since ancient times ( 5-500-6000
years ), a fact that has been proved by archaelogists
with the discovery of two tanagras that depict
a man that apperas to be thinking while sitting
on a chair( hence its name the Thinker) and a women,
most likely his wife. The tanagras are part of
the Hamangia culture, a late neolithic culture,
which was given its nambe after the village of
Hamangia, part of Istria, Dobrogea, nowadays the
Baia village, Tulcea county.
In terms of administration, it includes the Tulcea
and Constanta counties, havin the Danube Delta
as its upper limit, east of the Black Sea and west
of the lower Danube.

Danube Delta Biosphere Reservation: The
Danube Delta Biosphere Reservation : the largest
protected area in the country, with a surface of
500335 ha ,and with a special status: Biosphere
reservation, Ramsar sit, Unesco World Heritage
medieval citadel of Ensiala:
( Yeni Sale, a turkish term that can be understood
as new declaration). The ruines of the citadel are
located at a distance of 2 km from the village of
Ensiala, on a hill overseeing the Razim and Babadag
lakes. As far as we know, it seems that the Genovese
where the ones who have built it 700 years ago
Histria Citadel: Located at a distance
of 65 km from Constanta, in the village of Istria,
on the shores of the Sinoe lake.
Casian’s Cave: Located
in the proximity of the village of Targusor, it is
the place where the proemint theologist of the Byzantin
empire, also one of the founders of the monahism,
came to live as an ascet. A monk hermitage settled
in the cave, a cave that is visited every year by
thousands of pilgrims. It has been inhabited since
the first century B.C
Ioan Casian Monastery : Can be found near
the village of Targusor, on the Casienilor hills,
is in the middle of arheological sites, some of them
unexplored, shelters and caves.

by the bulgarian villagers. The church is half
buried in the ground and has been built with
rocks brought from the ancient Histria. It is
an unique church in Romania, due to its design.

Babadag Fortification: Situated at 5 km
north of Babadag.
old lighthouse of Sulina: aBuilt by the
ottomans at the begining of the nineteenth- century,
it became a museum in 2002. Having a height of
17,34 metres and the shape of a truncated cone,
the lighthouse remained at a distance of 2,5 km
from the seashore afther the transformation of
the coast line. The showrooms located on the ground
floor of the museum host documents and photos that
ilustrate the history of Sulina during the European
Comission of Danube period and also the lifes and
achivements of two historical figures of the city:
the musical conductor George Georgescu and Eugeniu
Botez, also known by his pen name Jean Bart, who
was also a maritime commisioner at the begining
of this century.
Located on the right bank of the Danube, in a
place called Pontonul Vechiu, near the city of
Isaccea, on the most important crossing point.
The name of the citadel is mentioned by Ptolomeu,
then in Itinerarium Antonini and Notitia Dignitatum,
having getic origin.
